Sanctification In Christ

Philippians 1:9-11:

“The Fruit of Righteousness Through Jesus Christ”

1. As the Sovereign LORD He Exhorts us to obey by His Explicit Command, as we take in Scripture.

• He COMMANDS us to bear fruit in Scripture. – Matthew 5:16, 28:16-20

2. As the Shepherding Leader He Encourages us to obey by His Exemplary Conduct, as we take in Scripture.

• He LEADS us to bear fruit by His example in Scripture. – Hebrews 12:2-3 and Philippians 2:5-11 

3. As the Satisfactory Sacrifice, He Enables us to obey by His Emancipating Cross-work, as we trust in Him.

• He FREED us from our dead hearts and enslavement to sin by His death on the Cross in order for us to bear fruit by faith. – Galatians 1:3-5 and Romans 6

4. As the Strengthening Source, He Evokes us to obey by His Empowering Compulsion, as we trust in Him.

• He EMPOWERS us to bear fruit by faith. – John 15:1-11; Galatians 2:20; II Corinthians 5:14; Philippians 4:13; Romans 15:18; Colossians 1:29

5. As the Sanctifying Savior, He Expiates our obedience by His Emending Consecration, as we trust in Him.

• He MAKES our fruit acceptable to God by cleansing them with His righteous blood by faith. — I Peter 2:5 and Hebrews 13:15

6. As the Supplicating Son, He Entreats the Father for our obedience by His Endless Connection to the Father in our behalf.

• He PRAYS for our fruit-bearing. – Romans 8:34

Justifying-Faith in Jesus’ Righteousness FOR me (us), leads to Sanctifying-Faith in Jesus to produce practical righteousness IN/THROUGH me (us).  Positional righteousness manifests/evidences itself in practical righteousness.  Christians are only filled with the fruit of righteousness (the fruit which righteousness produces) through the agency of Jesus Christ.  It is Jesus-Produced righteousness, and thus it is Jesus-produced fruit of that righteousness.  Jesus’ righteousness FOR me (imputed positional righteousness) produces it’s own fruit in my daily life.  On the Cross and in His Resurrection, Jesus purchased my regeneration, my justification, my definitive sanctification, my progressive sanctification, and my eventual glorification.
