The Church of St. Charles

Demonstrating Christ's Love in a Practical Way

Outline Study

I. Purpose: Glorifying God by spreading intimacy with and the supremacy of Christ in all things to all peoples. (I Corinthians 10:31; Colossians 1:15-18, 28b; Matthew 5:16; 28:16-20; John 17; I John 3b-4; etc…).

  • By “glorify”, we mean to reflect or display as glorious. God’s Glory or God as Glorious refers to Him as having perfect, intense, and infinite weight of value and worth.  We are always to reflect/display God as He truly is: First and Best.
  • By “intimacy with Jesus”, we mean a real, personal, and enjoyable relationship with Jesus by trusting in Him to be one’s only Savior and Lord.
  • By “the supremacy of Jesus”, we mean to treasure, submit to, and stand in awe of Jesus as being the First and Best of beings and as having complete control over all that He has created.

A. Mission: “The Great Commission”, To make disciples of all peoples. (Or very precisely defined as, Making Worshippers by spreading intimacy with and the supremacy of Jesus Christ in all things, to all peoples all for the glory of God.) (Matthew 28:16-20; Colossians1:28a; I John 1:3a; Acts 20:20-21, 24-32; I Timothy 4:16; II Timothy 3:16-17; Romans 1:16-17; 10:9-17; II Corinthians 5:14-6:2; I Peter 4:10-11; etc…).

  • By “Worshippers”, we mean those who glorify and honor God for who He is in every part of their lives.

1. Specific Mission: To go to those in need;… low income individuals and families in St. Charles County; especially St. Charles City. (Isaiah 61:1-3).

2. Ministries: Men’s, Women’s, AdrenalinE (Youth), Children’s, Preaching, Worship, Ushers, Greeters, Prayer Chain & Meeting, Teaching (SOLID/Doctrinal classes), Simple Gifts, HOH, Benevolence, Community Events, Food (Wednesday nights and events), Summer Activities, Website, etc….

3. Functions: Worship, Evangelism, Fellowship, Discipleship, and Ministry.

  • By “Worship”, we mean the narrow use of the word.  That which is accomplished within our church services, such as singing, clapping, playing music, giving, praying, preaching, reading the Bible, and so forth.
  • By “Evangelism”, we mean verbally proclaiming the whole Good News of Jesus Christ to all the people groups of the world.
  • By “Fellowship”, we mean Christians, especially within our church, meeting together regularly for encouraging, teaching, serving, and caring for one another.
  • By “Discipleship”, we mean the Christian education and transformation of all Christians to grow in to becoming more holy like Jesus.
  • By “Ministry”, we mean serving one another and lovingly meeting the needs of others.

Worship (Psalm 9:1-2; 29:1-2; 30:4; 96; 139:14; Acts 2:42, 47; Colossians 3:16-17; I Timothy 1:17; 4:13; Matthew 28:16-20), Evangelism (Matthew 28:16-20; Acts 1:8; 2:42-47; Romans 10:13-17;I Corinthians 2:1-5; 14:24-25), Fellowship (I John 1:1-4; Acts 2:42-47; I Corinthians 12:12-21; Hebrews 10:22-25; James 5:13-20; I Peter 4:7-11;John 13:34-35; 17:1-26; Colossians 3:8-17; I Thessalonians 5:9-28; Ephesians 4:1-16), Discipleship (II Timothy 2:2, 14-19; 3:16-17; 4:1-5; Titus 2:1-10, 15; 3:1-11; I Thessalonians 5:14-15; Ephesians 4:11-12), and Ministry (Service) (I Corinthians 12:4-11; Ephesians 4:1-16; Romans 12; I Peter 4:7-11; James 5:13-20).

B. Power: Radical Dependence on the Holy Spirit, by being Radically Biblical in all we teach and do. (I Peter 4:10-11; Colossians 1:29; II Corinthians 4:7; Romans 1:16; 8:5-17; Isaiah 55:10-11; Ephesians 5:15-21; etc…).

  • By “Radical Dependence”, we mean purposefully seeking to rely on the Holy Spirit’s power, wisdom, Word, ways, etc… in all we attempt to do so that He makes it effective and receives all of the praise and glory.  This is radical because most people in the world do not think or live this way or value when others do.
  • By “Radically Biblical”, we mean purposefully seeking to understand, believe, value, and live by everything that God says in His Word about everything what to teach, say, do, think, pray, sing, and play.  And not just what we do but also how, when, where, and why we do it.  This is radical because most people in the world do not think or live this way or value when others do.

C. Motivation: The Love of God compels us to joyfully love Him with all that we are and others as ourselves.  (II Corinthians 5:14a; Luke 7:37-50; Matthew 22:37-40; I John 3:18; 4:19-21; Romans 5:5; etc…).
