The Church of St. Charles

Demonstrating Christ's Love in a Practical Way

Volunteer

If you are interested in volunteering to serve with us there are many ways to get involved.  You can come as an individual or with a group.  Some of these opportunities are available year-round and some are available once a year. If you would like more information about any of these opportunities please contact us.

Ongoing

Community Meal

Each Wednesday evening we provide a free fully balanced meal for anyone in the community.  We usually serve 50 to 80 people.  Any food we have left over we send home with the families.  You can help by providing a meal on the second, third or fifth week of any month.

Simple Gifts

We receive a great number of requests for household supplies such as sheets, silverware, pots and pans, paper products, cleaning supplies, toiletry items and over-the-counter medicines.  We try to fill the requests for these items as best we can.  You can help by donating any of these items.

Discipleship and Mentoring

We have children, youth and adults that are in need of discipleship.  They are eager to grow and learn God’s ways.  Our church is made up of many young Christians and we need more hearts and hands eager to see them mature.  This could be done either through a structured discipleship study or mentoring.

Benevolence

On a weekly basis we receive requests for assistance with utility bills, rent, gas or food.  We have a few guidelines we follow when filling these requests.  You can help by providing funds and prayers.

Annual

Winter Warm Up

Late January or early February we serve a hot chili lunch and provide blankets, sheets and bedspreads to the families of the community.  You can help pass out flyers before the event or serve lunch and give away blankets.

Block Party

One of the goals we have with summer events is to draw the parents in as well as the children.  We do this with a block party.  We set up carnival booths, have give-aways, a free lunch, and lots of fun.  You can help pass out flyers before the party or work at one of the carnival booths.

Backyard Bible Clubs

We have as many Backyard Bible Clubs as possible each summer.  We have mission teams, both local and out-of-state, that assist us each summer.  Our goal is to reach as many children as possible and to provide healthy activities throughout the summer.  We would love to have your group lead a club in our neighborhood.

Christmas in August

Each August we supply the neighborhood children with fully loaded backpacks to get them ready to start school.  We also give away clothing that is in good condition for the fall and winter seasons.  We have a fall carnival and cookout for a day of fun and fellowship.  You can help prepare the bags and pass out flyers or come help on that day.

Health Fair

Each October we have a free health fair for the community.  At the fair we give free flu shots, eye exams, blood sugar counts, blood pressure checks and other preventive health information.  We also use this time to give away coats, hats, gloves and other items to prepare the families for the winter season.  We provide a cookout while they are receiving their exams and items.

Thanksgiving Meal

Each year on the Wednesday prior to Thanksgiving we offer a full Thanksgiving meal to the entire community.

Christmas Adoptions

Each year starting in September we gather information about families in need of assistance for Christmas.  We get the needs and wants for the parents as well as the children.  Small groups or families from churches adopt these families.  Your group can help by adopting one of these families.
