The Church of St. Charles

Demonstrating Christ's Love in a Practical Way

Volunteer

If you are interested in volunteering to serve with us there are many ways to get involved.  You can come as an individual or with a group.  Some of these opportunities are available year-round and some are available once a year.

Ongoing

Community Meal

Each Wednesday evening we provide a free fully balanced meal for anyone in the community.  We usually serve 50 to 80 people.  Any food we have left over we send home with the families.

Ways you can assist us:
Donate funds for the food.
Provide a meal or a portion of it.
Currently we have 2 churches that supply meals and servers.  Your group could help serve on the second, third or fifth week of any month.

Simple Gifts

We receive a great number of requests for household supplies such as sheets, silverware, pots and pans, paper products, cleaning supplies, toiletry items and over-the-counter medicines.  We try to fill the requests for these items as best we can.

Ways you can assist us:
Supply any of the items listed on our donations page.
Donate funds to help us keep our closet stocked.

Discipleship and Mentoring

We have children, youth and adults that are in need of discipleship.  They are eager to grow and learn God’s ways.  Our church is made up of many young Christians and we need more hearts and hands eager to see them mature.  This could be done either through a structured discipleship study or mentoring.

Ways you can assist us:
Provide one on one discipleship studies.
Be a mentor for children, teens or adults.

Benevolence

On a weekly basis we receive requests for assistance to pay utility bills or rent and money for gas or food.  We have a few guidelines we follow when filling these requests.

Ways you can assist us:
Supply funds for paying bills.
Pray for discernment when dealing with requests.
Pray for wisdom in our finances.

Annual

Winter Warm Up

Late January or early February we provide blankets, sheets and bedspreads to the families of the community.  We also serve a hot chili lunch.

Ways you can assist us:
Provide new or used, clean blankets, sheets and bedspreads.
Provide food items to serve for lunch.
Volunteer at the event.
Pass out flyers prior to the event.

Block Party

One of the goals we have with summer events is to draw the parents in as well as the children.  We do this with a block party.  We set up carnival booths, have give-aways, a moon walk, etc.  This gives the parents a chance to meet the church and the people who will be working with them for the summer.

Ways you can assist us:
Supply and work the booths (face painting, ring toss, etc.)
Rent the activities.
Volunteer to cook and serve food.
Supply prizes to give away.
Donate money to fund the party.
Pass out flyers around the neighborhood prior to the event.
Be a translator for our Spanish speaking neighbors.

Backyard Bible Clubs

We have as many Backyard Bible Clubs as possible each summer.  We have mission teams, both local and out-of-state, that assist us each summer.  Our goal is to reach as many children as possible and to provide healthy activities throughout the summer.

Ways you can assist us:
Provide a group to lead a week of VBS or BYBC.
Provide food for a lunch for the mission teams.
Financial assistance to pay for summer staff.

Christmas in August

Each August we supply the neighborhood children with fully loaded backpacks to get them ready to start school.  We also give away clothing that is in good condition for the fall and winter seasons.  We have a fall carnival and cookout for a day of fun and fellowship.

Ways you can assist us:
Donate school supplies, backpacks and clothes.
Volunteer to cook, serve or give away.
Provide and work a carnival booth.
Donate food (hot dogs, chips, etc.)
Donate funds to support the event.
Pass out flyers prior to the event.
Be a translator for our Spanish speaking neighbors.

Health Fair

Each October we have a free health fair for the community.  At the fair we give free flu shots, eye exams, blood sugar counts, blood pressure checks and other preventive health information.  We also use this time to give away coats, hats, gloves and other items to prepare the families for the winter season.  We provide a cookout while they are receiving their exams and items.

Ways you can assist us:
Nurses are needed to administer the immunizations and do the exams.
Collect items for hygiene packets to be given away.
Collect coats, gloves and hats in all sizes.
Volunteer to help at the event.
Donate food (hot dots, chips, etc.)
Be a translator for our Spanish speaking neighbors.
Pass out flyers prior to the event.

Thanksgiving Meal

Each year on the Wednesday prior to Thanksgiving we offer a full Thanksgiving meal to the entire community.

Ways you can assist us:
Provide prepared and ready-to-serve food items.
Volunteer to set up, serve and clean up the meal.
Provide prepared food baskets for the families to take home.
Provide grocery store gift certificates for them to purchase turkeys.

Christmas Adoptions

Each year starting in September we gather information about families in need of assistance for Christmas.  We get the needs and wants for the parents as well as the children.  Small groups or families from churches adopt these families.

Ways you can assist us:
Volunteer to adopt a family and provide Christmas gifts for them.
This can be done with your family, small group or as a whole church.
